Anna Varney {aka Sopor Aeternus} is an enigma wrapped in a mystery surrounded by chaos....Not too much seems to be known about her and what there is seems wrought with contradictions....She's a transsexual singer,who while VERY dark and strange yet also seems also to have a very deep and sarcastic WIT!!!!! Her music sounds like dark madrigals that are tinged with sorrow and sometimes her own dark sexuality....and her recent music is filled with lyrics of a very personal nature dealing with the trials and tribulations of finding love and companionship as a trassexual goddess!!!! I guess it's not easy for any of us is it!?!??!!?
Her work is STUNNING and her music is always a pleasure to listen too....Her image is finely crafted and JUST as important as her music....Her lyric books and notes are AMAZING and I always look forward to what images shes going to produce....Since this is the ONLY way we have of getting to know her on any level!!!!! Her imagery is sometimes very classicly Gothique but there is also a heavy influence of Japanese Buthoh and Sci-Fi overtures running through her work.....
So if for any reason other than curiosity IIMPLORE you to sample some of the strange and lovely music of Sopor Aeternus....
