I mean...could you just DIE!?!?!?
My friend Johanna Constantine told me about this picture...and even before I saw it I imagined it....I had always wondered what that moment was like...and here it was...photographic evidence....Someone had the foresight to capture this amazing moment in time...
...Rozz completely immersed in the darkness and looking goulishly beautiful with his slender fingers resting on Ron's shoulder showing possession...protection......and as if to say...YES...all this could soon be yours...and So it was......
they WERE Death Rock...two tainted kings with hyperdermic crowns....making love and making music and noise either with Christian Death or Premature Ejaculation....this was REAL for them...not artifice or kids playing dress-up...they were the real thing....
Here is a picture of two young men just on the verge of greatness....Rozz Williams...soon to be frontman of "Cristian Death" one of.... if not THE most influential Deathrock band ever...and Ron Athey....Body Modification God...Performance artist...work of art....Coming togther...and cumming together
This is a love affair that dreams are made of...two amazingly dark and beautiful people meeting and creating art WITH each other and about each other....becoming possessed with creativity...fueled by drugs and sex and a desire to confront and confound....ripping through life and leaving a bloody smeared mess in their wake....
Sometimes I wonder what they talked about during their drug fueled binges...what they wondered lying in each others arms faces smeared with lipstick and smelling of an abbatoir.....what words did they speak as they slashed into each others palms....as they shared in a young trick....what were the ways of their love???What kind of future did they imagine together...if any???? What worlds did they dream of???
I didn't know much of their affair until recently I came across an article on the 'Malaise Music" website describing in more detail than I had ever seen before their tumultuous life togther....heres the link to the article {http://malaisemusic.com/experimentalist.html}
This opened my eyes to alot of intimacies of their brief time togther....it filled in alot of blanks....and left me very satisfied!!!
it was savage and it was stunning.....
...and like most things it eventually came to an end...but for a brief and amazing moment...these two beautiful men came together and made something poignant and everlasting...something that meant something and that mattered...something dark and oppressive...something scary and real...something visceral and moving....Something to scare the life into you....
Rozz has left us...but Ron is still making amazing art that confronts and amazes....Thank both of you boys for giving us so much...and for showing us TRUE beauty.....unflinchingly......and unapolagetically....for shoving our face into the void and NEVER letting us come up for air....for showing us the true beauty in darkness...
