Mad about the "BOY" {London}

"Originally involved in Acme on King's Road which along with Westwood and McLaren's shop SEX, clothed most of the early punks. John Krevine went on to open Boy in 1977 with is bondage gear and T-Shirts, gaining immediate notoriety with his shock value window display and inevitable prosecutions. Despite its punk roots the shop-cum-label soon became a mainstay of the high street boom with the Boy logo becoming the most bootlegged name of the decade."

 

I'm almost positive I became aware of BOY LONDON fromt he "Bogeys" catalog...which i ordered from the back of "Smash Hits"....It was an amazing catalogue of all kinds of Punk/Goth/Teddy Boy loks my little american heart always longer for...Brothel Creepers...Bondage pants...and also BOY London...I guess it was also my first run in with branding...and in this case I LOVED it...add in the fact that my icon at the time {and in some ways FOREVER} Boy George wore it...i was sold!!!! I did some reseach with Pre-internet was NOT EASY and found a shop in Jersey that sold it...So I got a tee and a hat and wore both until they either were lost or stolen....there also used to be a BOY store on Spring street in NYC...after awhile it only sold watches but i remeber going in there and just being in awe...It was just so bold and iconic...something about it just engrained itself witin me.....Recently I went to London and bought a new T-shirt and In my flea market searches have also found an original BOY belt buckle!!!!! So my small collection grows....

Simple...Sexually ambiguious....{or perhaps very sexualy forward}...stylish and timeless....

Adventures in Flea-Marketeering: Part 4 {"Monsoon" edition}

So after my VERY late night I somehow woke with a crazy kind of enthusiasm for the day!!!! And even though my adventure wasn't plentiful... the few {2} things I got were very impressive!!!

I just LOVE this amazing hand painted {on silk} portrait of this young boy!!!! The sailor shirt is pretty damn cute!!!! The guy who sold it to me told me it was a painting of the womans father done by his mother!!!!

 I've been eyeing this lovely for WEEKS...and the guy finally went down on the price to someting more reasonable...an amazing mourning piece for a lost child!!!

even the violet coloured velvet is amazngly worn...

My trip home was INSANE...the wind and the rain....It wasnt cute...however i had a nice little treat on the train home...

a little "peanut butter and jelly" doughnut and some Ronnybrook Farms chocolate milk...Damn you Doughtut Plant!!!!!!!

So maybe next week will yeild more treasures...so until then...

the RETURN of DISKO NOUVEAUX!!!!!!

So...Last night DISKO NOUVEAUX seemed to a one giant sweaty dancey success!!!!! At one point it was really packed all asses to elbows in there!!!!! I couldn't help but smile....Sometimes I am a bit jaded about NYC nightlife...Living here my WHOLE LIFE I've seen it wax and wane...and was here during what at least people of MY generation consider it's "heyday"....and like alot of generations growing older i long for those days of nostalgia....and while DISKO NOUVEAUX isn't SPECIFICALLY about living in the past...It was about trying to make the present a little more like it!!!! And perhaps last night we helped make that happen in our own small way!!!! People came out...got dressed up and DANCED...like how it SHOULD be!!!!!

So....that being said i'd like to again thank Patrick {of recent Salvation fame} and Sean aka Templar {of Underworld/Red Party fame} for being gracious guest DJ's....and for keeping everyone going along with me all night ...and because it was requested here was my setlist for the night!!!!!

Marlo Gamora { http://marlogamora.com/ } is a great friend of mine...and he was the first person I ever did a photoshoot with..and my "first time" with him was WONDERFUL!! He put me at ease and let me do MY thing while he did HIS thing...no pretense...no ego...just...FUN!!!!! ..I STILL use those images and they have been iconic representations of what PUREVILE! is...So not surprisingly...We did a second photoshoot with some of my AMAZINGLY talented and HOT friends..wth pieces i'd featured in a mini-fashion show at "Dances of Vice"{  http://dancesofvice.com/} for Halloween..and finally they are in my eagerly shaking hands....I will post the COMPLETE shoot later on on my website {and here as well most likely} but for now here is a preview....And THANKS must be given to Kristin,Benn,Gina,James,Sara,and Andrew for letting me use them as my little dolls...and for helping Marlo and i have an AMAZING shoot!!!!
