Sandra Backlund: Impossible Geometries

I have ALWAYS seen her work in SO many magazines.....and blogs and tumblrs....but until today didn't know her name...until my friend Val texted it to me...Sandra Backlund {http://www.sandrabacklund.com/} creates AMAZING knitwear...things that swallow and envelope...sharp edges and seemingly impossible volume.....Her work is so obviously connected to sculpture with how it interacts with the human form so harmoniously...or forceably......at one moment someone looks comfortable in he pieces...the next as if they are being swallowed by some soft woolen monster....

Alarmingly modern without being boring or redundant...Her rk is some of the most thrillin and inspiring i've seen in a long time!!!! Please check her out!!!

THIS looks like a fun little short film...I mean DUH the little goth boy inside is jumping up and down at the potential of how cool this may be...its like Lydia Deets meets Coriline meets Nightmare before Christmas meets...well...you get the picture.....

Someplace Safe.....

Lately i've been feeling like i've been losing touch with that playful side of myself....and I was thinking how much fun i used to have making blanket forts...how safe i felt in my secret world....somewhere to hide and read...or just daydream....who gets to do that anymore????

When was in college i had a few friends living with me in my parents basement...it was like a studio and allthough i love peoples company I needed my privacy...so i ensconced my bed in layesand layers of fabrics...i had  a bookshelf and a cd player inside...and some candles for mood lighting...it was heaven...a litle respite from my busy life...I miss that....maybe i need to get some blankets togther and get to work!!!

So remember to stop every once and awhile and enjoy  the magic of life....even if that mean just throwing a blanket over your head and reading VOGUE ITALIA by flashlight!!!

DJ PUREVILE! Setlist for DISKO NOUVEAUX September 10th!!!!

So a slightly smaller crowd that usual but no less enthusiastic at DISKO NOUVEAUX last night!!! Special thanks to DJ Hi Fi Hillary for making a GRAND return and for DJ JEFFO! and his triumphant first time!!!! For this outfit alone it may be worth driving to Canada to the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts!!!!! It unfortunately closes October second but it looks like theres some amazing pieces including Gaultiers childhood Teddy bear for whom he made many outfits for!!!!!

Gaultier was my first designer crush and he will always be so dear to my heart!!!! If anyones interested in an impromtu road trip...I have the car if you have the gas money!!! HEH!!!!
