Ellen Greene's White Glove Test

Ellen Greene's {http://artbyellengreene.com/home.html} tattooed glove art explores the contrast between the masculine and the feminine...the traditional and the subversive....gloves were a staple of womens clothing for most of the earlt 20th century...a symbol of grace and good manners and perhaps even of subserviance....Tattooing has had connotations of violence and subversity...perversity and over and obvious masculinity....Ellen's art combines these two ideas and keeps us questioning these ideas which some still carry on today....but symantics aside....her work is beautifully wrought and amazingly and painstakingly painted....truly though provoking AND beautiful!!!

XOXO
