OBSESSED: 2NE1 "I am the Best"

So in London Johanna mentioned this band and i was intrigued......and THIS did not disappoint...MOST of their music i didn't love but THIS song...I have been listening to it NON STOP since i returned!!!! its AURAL SEX give it a listen.....

The video is pure eye candy...all the outfit changes and personality changes...and the song itself is the best kind of pop music...catchy, fun and BITCHY!!! I just want to live in this flashy world of superficial glamour...even if only for a few minutes.....

and the lyrics....I mean ...REALLY!?!?!?!?

"i am the best
i am the best
i am the best
th-th-the best
whoever looks at me can see i'm kind of fabulous alright
even if you were me, you'd be envious of this body alright
guys are turning around to look at me
girls are following me
being looked down on in the spot
i'm sitting at, every day is tiring"

So AMAZING!!!! and while rocking Gareth Pugh!!!! DUH!!!!i hope you enjoy this                             with the same amount of NON guilty pleasure as i did!!!!

Quay Brothers: On Deciphering the Pharmacist's Prescription for Lip-Reading Puppets at the MOMA

I NEED to go back again... {and again and again and again and again....}

I mean theres really no need to ask if the Quay Brothers influenced me really....just look at my work and what i do....there's a thread that runs through our work....I mean come on.....their brand of creepy nostalgia...reverence for the old and the rusted...the dusty and forgotten...a well shadowed interior.... the things dreams are made of.....and the DOLLS...all the lovely broken know what a weakness i have for them.......all of this is a HUGE influence on what i do...and how i live and decorate my home.....

Needless to say i was OVERJOYED to hear they were having a retrospective at the MOMA especially after seeing a sneak peek at Parsons {Pratt?} in 2006 where they featured some of their sets...THAT was stunning so i could ONLY imagine......

So....these two foppish brothers have made some stunningly amazing stop motion films....most of which i was VERY familiar with {as I'm sure you all are too...} but the one thing i was amazed at during my visit to the exhibit was how much ILLUSTRATION work they did!!! Stark and stunning work influenced by Polish artists....surreal and disturbing...they we so prolific!!! I had no idea!!!!! They also had many examples of student work and even some childhood paintings and was a glimpse behind the magic and into the lives of these two extraordinary twins....a world i was more than happy to be immersed in!!!!

Plan on a few hours to see the exhibit...there 88 minutes of footage ALONE not to mention all the artwork AND the miniature sets that are downstairs by the screening room DONT MISS THOSE...also if your as slick as me and dress nicely so the old PR Queen of a guard turns a blind eye to let you take photos well good on you!!! If not BEWARE no photos allowed...but heres some i secretly snapped for your enjoyment....

MAny videos were shown....from stop motion work to sets they designed to commercials they made to help pay for their REAL art....THIS is one of their most famous.."Street of Crocodiles"...SO dark and lovely....truly a magical piece of work to be sure!!!!!

Heres some show information....

“Bona to vada your dolly old eek.” : a Reflection on Polari, Londons Secret Gay Slang

"The Piccadilly palare
Was just silly slang
Between me and the boys in my gang
"So Bona to Vada. OH YOU
Your lovely eek and
Your lovely riah"

Polari (or alternatively ParlareParlaryPalarePalariePalari;[1] from Italian parlare, "to talk") is a form of cant slang used in Britain by actors, circus and fairground showmen, criminals, prostitutes, and the gay subculture. It was popularised in the 1960s by camp characters Julian and Sandy in the popular BBC radio show Round the Horne.[2] There is some debate about its origins,[3] but it can be traced back to at least the 19th century, and possibly the 16th century.[4] There is a longstanding connection with Punch and Judy street puppet performers who traditionally used Polari to converse.[5]

This was the first time I had even heard of Polari {i.e.:Palare}...through Morrissey, naturally, and his "thinly veiled" references to Gay life...{His or others}.....this was also pre- internet so I had a lot of trouble finding anything on the subject...and even with the advent of the electronic era it was still not easy to find...but i just LOVED the idea of this secret language used by gays during a time when being a homosexual was illegal.....The idea of people creating  way of communicating even though they knew they risked being thrown in jail...or WORSE.....It seems to have started as a language for thieves...and circus folk....and sailors...and then developed into what was to be known as "Polari" the secret language of the London Gay is a combination many things...Italian ,French,Yiddish...and nonsensical words or words just simply said backwards...its truly more of a SLNG than a real language for theres no tenses or structure.......just simply a way to replace certain words with other words to keep conversation was very silly...very Camp...and very neneeded at the was a way in a very public place of telling your friend how hot the guy just walked in was...or to share the tale of last nights conquest over some everyone should be able to!!!!!

I had seen it referenced in a few movies like "the Naked Civil Servant" about the life of Gay Icon Quentin Crisp...and in a small scene in "Velvet Goldmine"....but other than that, not much i became even more intrigued....and on my last trip to London i even searched GAy bookstores for books on Polari none of which I could find....but i gathered bits and pieces of information and even found a comprehensive glossary of words on the Wikipedia page ... i was beginning to find out more and more about this "language"....Recently a friend of mine posted about this webcast on "the World"...its not super comprehensive...but a delightful little piece of history....definitely worth a listen!!!!!

Even though it is a necessity that being Gay becomes accepted by society and that we all have equal rights......I always had a romance with the fact that it was always treated as something sinister or secret...the :underground" aspect of me there was something ...i don't know...romantic about it....having to sneak around...having a secret a young person slowly coming out there was something to this that appealed to was all very much like living in a "Soft Cell" song...SO i think thats why i was so intrigued by "Polari"...this secret language that only WE knew....Something born out of need and necessity....Something covert.....somrthing...dangerous...

But in today's society we don't need it...though id like to bring it back in a small way...a phrase here...a word there....All the omi- palones might just be gagging over it one day, don't cha think dolly bird????
